Meet My Furry Friends

Welcome to the fluffiest corner of my blog, where paws patter and purrs echo through the pages. Meet Miss Marple, my ever-curious pug with the soul of a detective, and Gaea, my serene Scottish Fold who watches the world with ancient, knowing eyes.

These two are more than pets—they’re family, companions, and daily sources of laughter and comfort. Whether it’s Miss Marple sniffing out “mysteries” in the laundry basket or Gaea claiming the sunniest spot in the house like the queen she is, life with them is full of tiny adventures and big love.

This page is dedicated to their quirks, their cuddles, and the stories that make our home a little furrier—and a lot more joyful.

🐶 Miss Marple (a.k.a. Mappy)

Born: November 7, 2020

Breed: Pug

Role: Head of Security & Soft Toy Inspector

Don’t be fooled by the squishy face and dainty snorts—Miss Marple is a lady of mystery, attitude, and undeniable charm. Born in sunny Portugal and whisked away to the Netherlands at just three months old, she embarked on a grand journey with a professional transport man (whom she likely judged the entire way). She behaved like royalty, of course. After all, first impressions matter.

Mappy quickly settled into her new home, where she made her first friend, claimed several plush toys, and promptly appointed herself the household’s emotional anchor (and food critic). Her favorite plaything? A once-proud rubber chicken who has, frankly, seen better days—but still gets dragged around like a treasured heirloom.

She’s whip-smart, gloriously food-obsessed, and proudly jealous of any attention not directed squarely at her. Whether she’s chasing dreams across open fields, sunbathing in the rare Dutch sunlight like a furry solar panel, or quietly inserting herself into every human activity, Miss Marple is always watching. Yes, always.

A little clingy, forever curious, and entirely lovable, she’s not just a pet—she’s a pug-shaped shadow who solves the mystery of “Where did my human go?” at least 78 times a day.

🐱 Gaea

Born: January 23, 2016

Breed: Scottish Fold

Role: Supreme Ruler of All Soft Surfaces

If Miss Marple is the detective, then Gaea is the queen who sits back and lets the world unfold before her—preferably from a sun-warmed windowsill. Born in Portugal and flown to the Netherlands at just three months old, she arrived like a tiny grey cloud of softness… and quiet authority.

From day one, Gaea carried herself with the poise of feline royalty. Calm, elegant, and wonderfully aloof when it suits her, she’s the type of lady who doesn’t chase after attention—it simply finds her. Often while she’s mid-beauty nap (of which there are, conservatively, ten per day).

She enjoys the finer things in life: cozy corners, gentle petting sessions, and surveying her kingdom with the serene confidence of someone who knows exactly how stunning they are. Gaea doesn’t demand the spotlight—she is the spotlight. Intelligent, graceful, and quietly powerful, she rules the house not with force, but with the softest paws and the sharpest gaze.

And make no mistake—when Gaea gives you her attention, it feels like a gift. One you probably didn’t deserve, but she’s generous like that.

Mappy Favorite Things

A curated collection of the finest pug-approved joys.

🐔 The Chicken (a.k.a. Her Loyal Battle Buddy)

Once a proud squeaky toy, now a slightly ragged, half-declucked companion. Despite its… well-loved appearance, this chicken remains Miss Marple’s #1 plaything. It’s been thrown, chewed, and dragged across many rooms—and still stands (barely).

🏃‍♀️ Zoomies in the Fields

Give her a bit of grass and a wide-open space and she transforms from “dignified lady” to “tiny sprinting blur.” Her ears flap, her tail curls with pride, and she runs like she’s chasing a mystery only she understands.

🌞 Sunbathing Like It’s Her Job

Dutch sun might be rare, but when it shows up, Mappy is the first to claim it. She lays in the garden like a little cinnamon bun, soaking in every drop of warmth like it’s the last light on earth.

🍗 Literally Any Food (Except Maybe Lettuce)

This pug lives to eat. Meals, snacks, crumbs that might have once been food—she’s on it. She also has a sixth sense for when someone thinks about going to the kitchen.

🛋 Being the Center of the Universe

Affection? Required. Petting? Non-negotiable. Attention? All of it, all the time. She’s a cuddle queen with a minor jealousy streak and a major talent for wedging herself into the spotlight.

Gaea Favorite Things

Because every queen deserves her comforts—preferably in soft fabric and silence.

🛏 Beauty Naps (and More Naps After That)

Gaea treats sleep not as a necessity, but as a sacred ritual. From sunlit cushions to mysteriously folded laundry piles, every surface is a potential throne for a perfectly timed 3-hour nap.

👤 Quiet Companionship

She’s not clingy—but she is always near. Whether you’re reading, working, or simply existing, Gaea will be close enough to touch… but not too close. That’s your job. Approach with care, offer gentle pets, and she may reward you with her approval.

🌅 Window Gazing

A connoisseur of the outside world (from a safe, climate-controlled distance), Gaea loves to perch by the window and watch life unfold—birds, leaves, raindrops, existential crises… all under her watchful, unblinking gaze.

Miss Marple “happy” face after bath

Clean? Yes. Emotionally recovered? Not even close…

She’s not speaking to me 😤. Just heavy sighs, judgmental glares, and the sound of wet paws storming off.

Miss Marple & the Animal Ambulance Joyride

A tale of holes, sirens, and a very independent pug

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon. The birds were singing, the breeze was warm, and our lady detective Miss Marple was enjoying her royal time in the garden — or so I naively thought.

I, the unsuspecting human, was inside the house, minding my own business and trusting — foolishly — that the little pawed investigator was behaving like the dignified pug she pretends to be.

When dinner time rolled around and I called her from the garden… silence.

No snorting, no little paws galloping. Just… nothing.

She had vanished.

Our garden has no exit to the outside world, only fences connecting it to neighboring gardens.
So I looked left. Right. Peeked over fences like a nosy suburban spy. Nothing.

Soon my son joined the mission — Operation Find The Fugitive Pug.
One hour passed. Still no Miss Marple.

Then… a clue!
A neighbor shouted from a higher balcony that he saw a pug-shaped blur casually strolling through a garden three doors down.

Wait — what?!?

Turns out… Miss Marple had dug a hole (yes, you read that right — dug. a. hole.) under our garden fence.
And then another one. And another.

Like a chubby canine version of Shawshank Redemption, she tunnelled through multiple gardens, determined to investigate whatever critical mission her snout had picked up on the wind.

Eventually, she ended up somewhere completely unknown, where she got stuck — no clue how to return from her garden-hopping rampage.

The lady of that house, shocked to find an unaccompanied miniature grandma pug in her backyard, called the animal ambulance.

Because of course.

And what did our heroine do?
She spent the rest of her Saturday afternoon cruising around the city in the front seat of the ambulance, keeping the driver company like the proud assistant she believes she is.

Here’s the cherry on top:
Her microchip still had our old address in Portugal (yes… that’s on me), so no one knew who this elegant escapee belonged to.

Only after we called animal services ourselves did we find out where she was.

We managed to get there before she did, which says a lot — because she was clearly taking her sweet time touring in style.

The driver?
Smiling ear to ear, absolutely in love with her.

I had to pay 40 euros to retrieve her.

My dog went on a joyride… and I paid for it.

Moral of the story?
Never underestimate a pug with short legs, a curious nose, and a strong sense of independence.
And always check your garden fences.
